Free Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse Community Education Event

 If you are interested in learning about protections available to victims of domestic violence and elder abuse, we encourage you to attend this free event presented by Georgia Legal Services Program® on February 21, 2017, at the Washington County Senior Center, 446 Maurice Friedman Drive, Sandersville, Georgia.  The event will run from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., and refreshments will be served.  Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse has many faces and many facets; and it impacts all ages, races and genders, regardless of social and financial standing.  Find out what resources are available to ensure stability and safety for victims of Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse, as well as  how GLSP can help with Housing, Food Stamps, Medicaid, Child Care, Protective Orders, Custody, Financial Support, Consumer Issues, Employment Issues and much more.

Oconee Fall Line Technical College

Oconee Fall Line Technical College will host TECH on Tuesday information sessions on the third Tuesday of every month for those interested in enrolling in one of the college’s programs.

These events are designed to provide community members with opportunities to learn more about the college, tour a program or meet with an instructor, speak with an admissions counselor, or apply for financial aid and get help with the Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA).

The $25 application fee will be waived for those who apply during one of these sessions.

“These TECH on Tuesday sessions are designed to help all interested students with an easy transition into the college environment,” said Dr. Saketha Adams, OFTC’s Dean of Enrollment Management. “The thought of college can be overwhelming at any level and we want to make the transition as fluid as possible for those in our communities.”

These information sessions will be held in the Stewart Building on the South Campus in Dublin and in the Atrium on the North Campus in Sandersville. Sessions will be at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM on the following dates:

 February 21, March 21, April 18, May 16, and June 20.
Washington County Public School News
Friday, Feb. 17 is a student holiday and teacher/staff work day.
Monday, February, 20 the BOE and all schools will close in observance of Presidents’ Day.
Classes resume Tues., Feb. 21.

Ridge Road Primary School
PRIDE Program is Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. celebrating Black History Month.
Remember to send in empty/used ink cartridges and Box Tops for Education to help the school earn supplies.
Every Tuesday is Ridge Road Schools Night at the local Dairy Queen from 3-8 p.m.

The 5th Grade Dance is Feb. 16 from 7-9 p.m.
A Parent Seminar will be held Feb. 17 with detail TBA.
Looking ahead, the Art Club meets Feb. 23 and
Band Camp is Feb. 24-25 and the HAWK Program is Feb. 24 at 8:45 a.m.
T.J. Elder Middle School
T.J. Elder Middle School hosts FFA Week with Tuesday being boots/hats day.
Wednesday, FFA members dress like your favorite teacher.
Thursday is FA Official Dress Day with CDE from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Friday is FFA shirt day and party at 3:45.
Saturday, FFA members will complete their community service project from 10 – 2.
 A Parent Involvement Education session will be held Feb. 22 from 5-6 p.m. 

Washington County High School
The JV soccer boys host Portal Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m. and the girls host Glascock at 7 p.m.
The JV baseball team travels to Swainsboro Feb. 15 for a game at 5 p.m. and
 they play @Washington-Wilkes Feb. 16 at 4 p.m.
The varsity baseball team travels to Aquinas Feb. 14 for a game at 4 and
they play a double header in Swainsboro beginning at 10 a.m.
